The Royal College of Ophthalmologists and Fight for Sight: The Zakarian Awards
These new awards are offered jointly between the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and Fight for Sight. Fight for Sight’s mission is to stop sight loss by funding the highest quality medical research. The RCOphth recognises that research is the basis of high-quality evidence-based clinical care, services, and policies. They are named to honour the late Miss Zakarian who generously left Fight for Sight a legacy to help the charity support pioneering researchers.
National Clinical Impact Awards – NCIA (formerly Clinical Excellence Awards) 2022 Round
The National Clinical Excellence Awards have been renamed the National Clinical Impact Awards (NCIAs). The 2022 round of the National Clinical Impact Awards will open for applications on Wednesday 27 April, with registration for a new online application system opening shortly before. BMA medical book awards 2022 applications open
Online applications to the 2022 BMA medical book awards are open and will close on Friday 18 March 2022. The BMA medical book awards take place annually to recognise outstanding contributions to medical literature. There are 15 BMA medical book awards categories available for 2022.
New Honorary Fellows
The highest honour that The Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth) can bestow is that of Honorary Fellow. It is awarded in recognition of a lifelong contribution to ophthalmology. Three new Honorary Fellows were commended at the recent RCOphth Annual Admission Ceremony, Professor Roger Buckley, Dr Santosh Honavar and Professor Sir Peng Khaw.
Nominations for 2022 RCOphth Honorary Fellows Opens
Members of the College are invited to submit nominations for Honorary Fellowships for 2022. The award of Honorary Fellow is the highest accolade that the College can bestow. It recognises those who have made a significant contribution to the field of ophthalmology.

The Royal College of Ophthalmologists is delighted to announce the opening of the Ulverscroft David Owen Award 2022, a continuation of the Ulverscroft David Owen Awards.
2022 Nettleship Medal
The Nettleship Medal is a prestigious award established on Mr Edward Nettleship’s retirement from practice in 1901. A fund was inaugurated by his friends and pupils with the object of founding an Edward Nettleship Prize for the encouragement of scientific ophthalmic work.
