Annual planning guidance published by NHS England has set out priorities for increases in elective and diagnostic activity, as well as the ambition to reduce outpatient follow-ups by a quarter over the next year. The 2022/23 guidance contains a number of targets which are particularly relevant to ophthalmology.

The Vice President of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists is a pivotal role with a wide portfolio of responsibilities. As Vice President, you will work closely with the President to advocate for the RCOphth as a membership body, fulfilling its purpose in supporting the needs of members to make a sustainable difference to the profession and patient care.

Members of the College are invited to submit nominations for Honorary Fellowships for 2022. The award of Honorary Fellow is the highest accolade that the College can bestow. It recognises those who have made a significant contribution to the field of ophthalmology.

As Chair, you will provide leadership of the Clinical Leads Forum supporting ophthalmic clinical leads in their roles. This is a great role for someone who wants to make an impact on eye care services and support fellow leads in delivering the best services possible.

Congratulations to Wojciech Karwatowski who has been elected as the new chair of the Clinical Council for Eye Health Commissioning (CCEHC) following a vote by the members of the Clinical Council.

The Royal College of Ophthalmologists is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Christopher Liu as Honorary Treasurer. Professor Liu has previously held Council and Trustee roles.

The College is pleased to announce the programme for the 2020 New Consultants Course. As in previous years the course will be chaired by Anna Maino, RCOphth New Consultants Lead and consultant at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.

Professor Kevin Davies, Consultant Rheumatologist and Foundation Chair of Medicine at Brighton & Sussex Medical School, has been formally announced as the new ACCEA Medical Director, starting on 1 July.
