In February 2024, the Trustees of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists dismissed Ms Evie Mensah from her positions as Chair of the College’s EDI Committee and as a member of Council.
The College investigated potential breaches of the College’s Code of Conduct and EDI Policy by Ms Mensah following concerns raised by College members. The Trustees were satisfied that documented evidence, and the responses of Ms Mensah, showed that Ms Mensah had failed to uphold the standards required by the Code of Conduct and the EDI Policy.
The College informed Ms Mensah of their decision to dismiss her.
Ms Mensah has commenced a legal process against the College, which the College will be defending.
